On August 10, 1519, a fleet of five ships (La Trinidad, San Antonio, La Concepcion, Victoria and Santiago) headed by the experienced Portuguese navigator Fernando de Magallanes, who had the commitment and the tenacity to realize his project to find a passage between the Atlantic and the South Sea. After spending forty days at the river Guadalquivir mouth, in front of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, they went out to the open sea.
