Emma Westley is the 47 year old CEO of AirBright a renewable energy company. She’s wealthy, independent, practical, sensible. Her personality traits are a reaction to her chaotic childhood; her alcoholic father killed himself and her mother, while driving drunk, when she was 12. She meets Matthew Charlton, a 36 year old photographer at a conference. He is a widower, gentle, interested, full of admiration for her success and they quickly fall into a serious relationship.
